The Challenges of Being a Watchman

Also, News about the New Book, Who Is Israel? – Redeemed Israel – A Digest

The challenge to be a watchman was long-ago laid before Ephraim and he failed at it. The question is, will we Ephraimites successfully meet these challenges in our day?

Hosea said Ephraim was once called to be a “watchman with his God” (Hosea 9:8). Unfortunately, Ephraim was not a good watchman. However, in our day, many Ephraimites feel called by YHVH to stand guard on their watchman’s post.

May it be that we will successfully fulfill our call. This call of the Ruach haKodesh (Spirit) that many are now feeling has a prophetic ring to it, because YHVH ordained that it will yet be even as Jeremiah prophesied:

“There shall be a day when [Ephraimite] watchmen shall call out, “Arise and let us go up to Zion, to our God (Jeremiah 31:6).

We know several things about this prophesied call: It has not yet happened, and fulfilling it requires that the lost sheep of Israel come to the knowledge that they are part of the commonwealth of Israel (Ephesians 2:12-19). In other words, they need to not only be sheep that know the Shepherd’s voice on an individual basis, but they also need to be sheep that understand that they are members of the Shepherd’s flock, that they are part of the house of Israel (John 10:16). This call is especially supposed to be fulfilled by Ephraim, when he is once again a mighty man and a recognizable people. And now, our generation is the first generation in which this prophecy could possibly be fulfilled… (Zechariah 10:7-10).

The condition is, it will only happen in our generation if we Messianic forerunners awaken sufficient numbers of sheep who are presently lost to an understanding of their identity. We need enough numbers to fulfill the great mystery that Paul speaks of when he tells of the “fullness of the gentiles coming in” (Romans 11:25). This important promise not only speaks of an unspecified number, but it also speaks of a certain “maturation” of that number. In on other words, they do as outlined in Hebrews 6:1-17. They grow beyond the elementary (but necessary) teachings of the Gospel and embrace the full truth concerning the Father’s great promise to our forefather, Abraham. They see how it is that they are “part” of the people of Israel and begin to love their brothers in a new and more profound way. (For more information, see the book, Redeemed Israel- Reunited and Restored, by Batya Wootten.)

Those who feel they have received a watchman’s call from the Father have been given an awesome responsibility. It is described in YHVH’s Word to Ezekiel:

” I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me. He who hears your word and does to heed the warning, his blood shall be on his own head. But he who takes the warning will save his life. But if you do not warn the people, then the blood of the people you were given to warn I will require at your hand” (Ezekiel 33:1-7).

In these verses we see that there are potential consequences that await those who do not fulfill their mission. Thus, it would be beneficial for all watchmen to seek to turn lost sheep into found sheep. It would be good to help uninformed Believers so that they, in turn, can accomplish their mission. It is time for us to realize that Believers understand about the need to have an individual relationship with the Shepherd, but most have not yet seen that they are part of Israel and thus have a profound call on their lives. They have not seen this truth because Ephraim was punished with a blinding punishment that has lasted for the past 2730 years. And now it is time for us to understand the truth. It is time for Israel’s watchmen to arise and minister the truth abot the whole house of Israel to their brethren. (For more information see the book, Restoring Israel’s Kingdom, by Angus Wootten.)

We need to walk tall and tell the truth now. We need to become a people who are celebrating our living relationship with Israel’s Messiah, our love of the eternal truths of Torah, and the fact that we are empowered to walk in those truths by YHVH’s Holy Spirit, the Ruach haKodesh. (For more information see the books, Israel’s Feast and their Fullness, and The Voice- Hearing the Almighty, both by Batya Wootten. Also see Israel- Empowered by the Spirit by Smith and Wootten.)

Accomplishing these lofty goal calls for a team effort. It also calls for effective word weapons. To help you help others, in addition to the above footnoted books, we want to make you a special offer for a free small book Ephraim and Judah – Israel Revealed.

Over the past several years, with a lot of help from you, our friends, we have managed to distribute some 20,000 copies of this small book. To help us see the consequences of this effort, we note that the average book is said to be read by four people. If so, we have made even greater progress than we imagined. This little book was inexpensive, $3.95 for a single copy and $2 per copy when purchased in lots of 25 copies. The problem is that this classic little book is now virtually out of print. So, Batya is currently working on a new revised edition titled, Who Is Israel? Redeemed Israel – A Digest. Hopefully the Lord will allow that it will be ready for the printer in September. But all is not lost because we are now offering this classic little book, Ephraim and Judah – Israel Revealed as an eBook. You can download it for free, or purchase it on a CD, and use it to help you spread the Good News!

Surely, eBooks that you can read on your commuter or electronic reading device and print out have some advantages. However, many people still like to have book in their hands. So, we would like to have Batya’s new Digest rolling off the presses as soon as possible. But we have a challenge. To keep the price down we need to print in quantity: the larger the quantity the smaller the cost of an individual copy, but the greater the total cost. In other words, it calls for an investment in inventory.

The title of this article is The Challenges of Being a Watchman. It is a dual challenge: The Challenge of Being a Watchman and The Challenge of Providing Word Weapons for Watchman. One way we can meet this dual challenge by having:

1. One hundred Watchman pre-order 25 copies of the new book Who Is Israel? Redeemed Israel – A Digest for fifty dollars.

2. Twenty five congregations, ministries, fellowships, and ambitious individuals pre-order 50 copies for one hundred dollars. Each 50 copy pre-order will also receive an unsigned Two Stick print.

3. Fifteen congregations, ministries, fellowships, and ambitious individuals pre-order 100 copies for two hundred dollars. Each 100 copy pre-order will receive a signed and numbered Two Stick print.

The pre-orders may be made at Key of David Marketplace. Meeting these goals will provide the additional funding required to print 20,000 copies of the book. More importantly it will immediately have over 5,000 copies of the new book in circulation.

Quite naturally, contributions are welcomed.

Working together as a team we can get the job done! We can get the message out to Israel’s lost sheep. We will surely have a happy Shepherd and happy sheep. Best of all we will be in line to receive the accolade, “Good and faithful servant well done!”

We thank you in advance for your support.

  1. Jim Young (Yacob) says:

Which tribe does the CREATOR love the best??? just remember there is still 12 tribes on this earth!!! My FATHER knows who they are and where they are!!! We ALL know what tribe is keeping the Torah safe!!! but they don’t KNOW(Yadah) HIM!!! why it is Judah!!!

  2. Dennis Northington says:

Pai Y Soo… thank you for your questions!!

To respond to your first and a part of your third question, we believe Yeshua Ha’Natsree (Jesus of Nazareth) was and is the true Messiah, that He died and rose from the dead and lives at the right hand of the Almighty; and according to the ancient Holy Scriptures, Genesis to Revelation, Yeshua is YHVH Elohim appearing in the flesh, as Yeshua demonstrated in Himself (Deu 18:18-19; John 8:58; 10:33; Mat 12:6-8; 9:35; 15:31; Isa 11; 53; Micah 5:2-4; Luke 24:46; Isa 8:14; John 2:22; Acts 3:15-17; Heb 13:20; 1 John 4:2; 2 John 1:7; Rev 5:5; John 1:1).

We also believe we are made righteous in Messiah Yeshua (He is the heart of Abraham’s unconditional covenant). The sign of the New Covenant is circumcision of the heart, which leads to confession, salvation, faith, grace, and to good works in Messiah. The conditional Mosaic covenant presents the eternal truths of Torah (God’s teaching and instructions) to His people, the hearing of which brings about blessing or curse (respond and be blessed, disobey and lack). In the New Covenant, Yeshua’s Law is to be written on our hearts by the Spirit (Rom 4:13-16; 5:2; 10:10; 1 Pet 1:19; 2 Cor 5:21; Gal 3:16,29; Titus 3:5; Heb 10:38; 1 John 1:9; Eph 2:8; James 2:14; Deu 28; Ezek 36:26; Jer 31:31-33; Heb 10:16; Gal 2:16; John 5:46; 10:30; 14:2; 15:10).

Regarding your second question, we believe the whole word of God to be unchanging truth and a light for our path in life. Every day is a day to worship God and we are to bring Him our offerings of praise and prayer. As we read in Pslams 141:2: “Let my prayer be set forth before thee [as] incense; [and] the lifting up of my hands [as] the evening sacrifice.”

We also believe our Creator is a God of order and He does instruct and teach us to observe His weekly Sabbath rest throughout Scripture. God gives us a simple excellent summary of the instruction given in these words:

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates: For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.” Exodus 20:8-11

Luke tells us Messiah’s authority of the day: “And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” Luke 6:5

The book of Acts shows us in many places how it’s a wonderful day for studying and teaching the Word of God. Here are three:

“And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.” Acts 13:44

“For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.” Act 15:21

“And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.” Acts 18:4

Finally, regarding the name Yeshua, we do choose to honor His Hebrew name. It literally means “Salvation”. It is the name above all others. Honoring His name is not unlike honoring your name as you have given it. We would not want to change it to suit our own language needs if we speak different native languages.

You may find this interesting. In December of 1972, a 5 part series written by Associated Press Writer George W. Cornell, titled the “Job of Joseph” appeared in newspapers across the U.S. The series elegantly portrayed Cornell’s thoughts about Joseph the carpenter. In the 4th segment, Cornell wrote about how he felt Joseph would have reacted when he discovered Jesus was missing from the caravan as they returned home to Nazareth following Passover in Jerusalem. He elegantly described how he envisioned the scene:

“Joseph ranged back and forth through the home-bound procession of Passover pilgrims, a sinking emptiness in him, his voice hoarse from calling, “Yeshua! Yeshua!”

For further response see this statement of faith at Messianic Israel Alliance.

  3. Pai Y Soo says:

I just wonder at the faith that you promote. Or simply put do you have a faith statement. Or do you believe or promoting the faith to Triune God.
Secondly, are your set up strongly believe that Sabbath or Saturday is the only worship day to God?
Thirdly, what do you take for Jesus? Is he your everything? I saw his name is done here as Yeshua. Is this only discovered Him to be address this way recently? How about addressing Him as Jesus, Iesus or yesu or yesus?
    Thank you.
